Maggie’s Kiss
This is something that I have seen happen many times out in the field. No hunter wants Maggie’s Kiss. This is when you are too close to your scope, you pull the trigger and you get kissed. This can happen for a variety of reasons. Sometimes its from excitment, incorrect positioning due to conditions, and young or inexperienced hunters. This is more common when you are hunting extra large game with higher recoil calibers. I have seen hunters half-mooned cut so bad, the blood was running down into their eye and they could not take a second shot. All the same, you want to stay as far back on your scope as you can comfortably see your target. If you are rigging up a young hunter you might even check into a scope guard or a cushioned scope.
