Our latest out of town hunters…The Burma Boys

We just welcomed our newest guests. I knew they were not from around here due to their accent. When the four men arrived, it was go time and we had to get to the field and in the blinds before the feeders went off. They climbed into my trusty Ford and we had to 4 wheel drive it up the rocky ridge to get out of camp (It is standard to start all of the hunts off this way because it builds up the excitment, like being on a ride at the fair).

I knew these guys were serious because they asked if they could stay in the blinds till 10 pm. I told them as long as there was bait they were hunting. As a hunting guide, I prefer to get to know everyone after there is game in the bag. Hunters come to hunt, they can tell me as much or as little about themselves as they want, but my job is to deliver results. At 9 pm and after 3 hogs were down, the Burma boys were ready to come in. We took pictures and I proceeded to help them process the hogs but they did not need my help. They were very efficient at dressing and skinning hogs.

As I am getting ready to head home for the night, we plan their morning hunt and as I say goodbye, one of them hands me a microphone. They brought a karoke machine! They love to sing and play guitar which happens to be one of my hobbies as well. So we ended up singing and playing guitar till after midnight. The favorite song of the night was “Country Roads” by John Denver. We were even singing it on the morning hunt. These guys were a blast and so happy. One of the things that I have heard after every hunt is, hog hunting is so much fun. No matter what part of the country or world, it seems the consensus is the same. Hog Hunting is fun. I have never met anyone from Burma (it is officially called Myanmar since 2021) but my new friends, were excellent, guitar pickin, karoke singin, straight shootin, wild hog skinnin, followers of Jesus.
